MAMA BLESSINGS

a celebration of the rites of passage into motherhood

Janae, thank you for this! I had such an incredible experience, and feel so ready and supported to become a mother. Can’t wait for this baby to see how much love they will have their life.

the mama blessing

Mother blessings are special and sacred ceremonies for mothers-to-be. The ceremony originated with indigenous traditions of “blessing way” ceremonies, which were traditionally held for women about to embark on a birthing journey. On their passage, one was blessed with song and dance during the ceremony. Keeping this in mind, we strive to respect other cultures and not appropriate their traditions. Thus, we hold our own modified version of this event within our community, not using the exact same title, but always acknowledging the roots of this ceremony.

She does an amazing job. She did great expectation setting in the beginning which I absolutely loved. Honestly, in a world where I’m so jaded by the customer experience 9 times out of 10, she freaking redeems my faith in it. I adore everything about what she does. So much respect for her.

it’s different than a baby shower...

The concept of a mother blessing is similar to that of a baby shower, but there are major differences between the two events. For example, a baby shower emphasizes gifts to celebrate the birth of a new child, while a mother blessing emphasizes a woman's remarkable transformation when she dedicates herself to a journey from maidenhood to motherhood.

during a ceremony..

Instead of opening gifts, this time is dedicated to a spiritual purpose for the mother-to-be and her family. We begin by honoring the birthing ancestors and their journeys, allowing everyone to be present and connected. This is also a chance for the group to bond and get to know each other better.

Be prepared for an emotional release during the ceremony. This is a time when the mother-to-be can share her deepest fears with those closest to her. We guide her through a ritual to release those fears, helping her feel stronger and more prepared for the sacred journey of bringing her child into the world.

The mother-to-be can also take part in activities to feel empowered, like belly bump painting, creating birth affirmation flags, making flower crowns, drawing a sacred foot bath, or receiving hand or foot massages—whatever helps her feel supported and loved.

At the end, the group will come together to share wishes and blessings for the mother-to-be. The ceremony is centered around the blessing altar, and I work closely with mothers and family members before the ceremony to incorporate personal traditions, values, or spiritual beliefs into the circle.

For example, we can create a special candle filled with love, support, and positive intentions for the mother. This candle can be used during labor or any time she needs strength, light, and positivity during her journey.

let’s make magic together.

Whether you’re hosting in your home, a friend’s space, or a rented venue, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Guests should sit in a circle—on chairs, floor cushions, or both—so everyone can connect.

  • We’ll need space for an altar or low table and room for a craft activity. I also offer a low boho picnic table for rent.

  • A small treat and drinks (like water or tea) make gatherings extra special. You could invite guests to bring finger food or opt for catering, which I can arrange.
